Abstract: The article studies the concepts of independent work, self-management and their correlation; the principles of self-management are analyzed. Due to the change of social priorities, including joining the global educational space, independent work of students acquires new status in the new standards of higher professional education. Independent work of students, being autonomous from the teacher and the other outer factors, cannot be autonomous from the social space and it has a certain potential in the fulfillment of the requirements of educational and professional standards and acquisition of the social experience of the generations by the students. It is necessary to create our own system of work organization to increase the efficiency of the mental work of students and to promote the level of their working capacity. Self-management of a student is the factor that, alongside with motivation to the studies and mental activity, makes the student successful and teaches them to plan their independent work efficiently. The main goal of self-management is efficient use of one’s own opportunities to overcome the external problems and provide efficient time-management. The process of management of one’s own activity consists of the following stages: setting of goals and tasks of management, decision-making to solve the tasks and problems, organization of activity to solve the tasks, self-control and final control.
