Abstract: The interdisciplinary study of migration issues in the key sociological and psychological aspects is undertaken. Migration is considered as an objective and even positive development in society, which has, however, some problems associated with the potential maladjustment of the migrants, ghettoization of migrants and their associations into localized groups and communities, as well as the negative attitude towards migrants on the part of the local population. Migration in the Ural, especially in the Middle Ural and Sverdlovsk region is analyzed on the theoretical and empirical levels, special attention is paid to the forms and sources of negative attitude towards migrants. The empirical research task was to study the features of the basic beliefs of an individual, ethnic identity and ethnic tolerance of students – future professionals of socially important spheres of Sverdlovsk region. The study revealed that the students who have a low level of general tolerance may be ethnic intolerant to the lifestyle, customs and traditions of the other culture; they are not able to admit another person as a bearer of universal and personal value, which is unacceptable for the specialist of the social sphere, who is responsible for integration, cooperation and solidarity of different ethnic groups in the region.
