Abstract: The study shows the newest tendencies in training teachers of Hungarian language and literature, and foreign languages, using language teacher training at the Faculty of Arts of one of the largest universities of Hungary, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), as an example. The university was founded in the 17th century, and has eight faculties, five of which offer teacher’s training as well. In the present system a teacher’s degree can be obtained in different ways in Hungarian higher education. In addition to teacher training in the double-level Bologna system (BA level and MA level), ELTE also offers undivided Master level teacher training (the students are trained in the teaching of two different subjects). This system was introduced in 2013. The paper presents this new structure of training, with special attention to teaching practice and the state exam. The paper presents high-priority issues that Hungarian higher education has to solve in order to further improve the practice-based methodological and pedagogical culture of graduates. The organizational background for this is provided by the Teacher Training Centre, which facilitates close cooperation between the university and the school. Tasks of the Centre include coordination of the activities of all the parties involved, and also the teaching practice of the trainees. Learning about the experiences of foreign partners also enables Russian higher education institutes to incorporate good practices in their training programme.
