Abstract: Patriotic education is important both on federal and regional levels. There are programs for patriotic education that focus on different audience (preschoolers, pupils and university students). The paper pays special attention to the opportunities of patriotic education in summer camp for children. The paper provides classification of approaches to patriotic education in summer camp. The first approach includes some events (usually held only once), for example contest of reciters “Ancient Russ, Russia, My Motherland!”, the concert “Echo of That War”, quiz “Do You Know Russia?”, etc. The second approach includes military and patriotic events for teenagers. Such approach is implemented in specialized sessions where the students try to be defenders of Motherland (intelligence officer, partisan or frontier guard). The third approach brings up love for the native region. This approach forms patriotic feelings to the native region, i.e. children’s birthplace. It results in emotional images about the native land in the minds of children, realization of their attitude to the native land, identification with certain places, people, nature and culture. Attention is focused on children’s summer camp in Sverdlovsk Region. All the camps implement the approaches to patriotic education described above.
Key words: Patriotism; patriotic education; health improvement camps for children; educational work; children’s rest; organization of leisure time.
