Abstract: The article describes the characteristics and specific features of the regional system of preventing extremism; it shows that the regional level is key in the national system of extremism prevention. The article also argues that extremism in the groups of young people is especially dangerous. It is argued that extremism in the groups of young people exposes a systemic threat to society. The importance of joint efforts of public authorities and civil society institutions for prevention of extremism is emphasized. It is shown that the contents and structure of the system of prevention of extremism in the groups of young people is largely determined by the socio-political situation and ethnic and religious situation in the region. The article names the main problems and risks that arise when preventing extremism among young people. It presents federal and regional normative documents that regulate prevention of extremism among young people in the Sverdlovsk region. It analyzes the practice of prevention of extremism among young people in the area of legislative activities, law enforcement, national state policy, state migration policy, state information policy, education and state youth policy sphere of the state cultural policy, and international cooperation. The main results of extremism prevention in the region show that Sverdlovsk region carries out a systematic work on the implementation of all directions of Strategy of counteracting extremism in the Russian Federation; special attention is paid to the organization of work on harmonization of interethnic and interreligious relations among the students of the educational and youth organizations.
