Abstract: The article discloses the peculiarities of communicative skills formation of children of different age, namely senior preschoolers and junior pupils. The main structural components of communicative skills of senior preschoolers are discussed: 1) the ability to comprehend the emotional state of peers and adults and describe it; 2) the ability to catch the emotional state of the partner with the help of verbal and non-verbal signs; 3) the ability to listen to the other person, respect their opinion and interests; to be quiet when defending one’s own view; 4) the ability to interact with the peers, to adjust one’s own wishes and desires with those of the peers, to take part in group projects and to help the others; 5) the ability to resist the quarrels, to react quietly to quarrels; respect to the others. The communicative skills of junior pupils include: 1) the ability to come in contact with other people and to ask a partner; 2) the ability to listen to the other; 3) the ability to understand and recognize views of the others which may be different from one’s own; 4) the ability to communicate easily; 5) the ability to choose the words and to use them properly in speech. The article contains a brief description of the experiment to assess the level of formation of communicative skills, which are one of the most important elements for successful communicative and social development of senior preschoolers and junior pupils. Based on the analysis of the results a conclusion is made that it is necessary to pay attention to development of such communicative skills of senior preschoolers and junior pupils as the ability to understand and recognize views of the others; the ability to communicate easily and the ability to listen to the partner.
