Abstract: The formation of value orientations among the trainees of the institutions of additional vocational education of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation is quite an intensive and interesting process. Due to the current reforms in the system of the MIA of Russia and strengthening of the social orientation of the Ministry activities, the studied problem becomes even more important. The theoretical aspects of the issue concerning the concept of value orientations, as well as the features of this process and the points of view of researchers are analyzed in the article. The problem is investigated from both pedagogical and psychological points of view. The interdisciplinary interaction plays a key role in this process. Such an important issue in pedagogy as forecasting, applied on the whole to the principle of continuity, and in particular to the process of education and training of police staff, is also considered. The author’s definition of the process of formation of value orientations of law enforcement officers is given. Special features of the service and learning environment of the institution of additional vocational education and their influence on the formation of value orientations of police officers are distinguished. The author refers to the so-called “basic” value orientations which should be formed among the law enforcement officers, such as observance and respect for human and civil rights and freedoms, as well as the ability to show empathy and compassion and to help citizens.
