Abstract: The article is devoted to the problem of increasing the motivation of younger schoolchildren to study the Russian language in the context of the implementation of cultural studies at the level of primary language education. This problem is considered taking into account one of the most important factors of modernity, which has both social and educational value, the study of the Russian language in a multi-ethnic class. The emergence of classes of this type requires specification in defining the objectives of training, building technologies, selecting methods, techniques and forms of organization of educational activities. Relying on personality-oriented and cultural studies approaches in educational activities will allow organizing the learning process in such a way that, while preserving the cultural uniqueness of a representative of any ethnic group, help solve problems of learning Russian and learning it. Interest in the Russian language as a motive for learning plays a pivotal role in the process of language education of foreign children. The article presents the topics of the students' projects and research works are presented in which the following logic is reflected: from personally significant content to content, reflected in the culture of the people, the carrier of which is the student, and then to content related to human values and their reflection in different cultures. Various forms of organization of students of a polyethnic class in design and research activities are considered: individual, group, the difficulties encountered by students in this activity and ways to overcome them are described. The pedagogical conditions of the organization of design and research activities revealed by the authors of the article will contribute to the solution of the problem of increasing the motivation to study the Russian language in primary school students studying in a polyethnic class.
