Methodology of Teaching Propositions on Classes on the Russian Language as a Foreign Language

Abstract: The article deals with the problem of teaching methods of Russian prepositions in the process of teaching Russian as a foreign language to students of Chinese universities. Review of the literature of both Russian and Chinese linguists dealing with issues related to prepositions is given. Based on the theory of prototypes and the theory of the metaphor of space, the authors show the importance of studying the many-valued semantics of prepositions. Due to the high frequency of the use of prepositions in the Russian language, foreign students have difficulties in distinguishing their meanings, therefore the proposed three-step method of studying Russian prepositions contributes to better memorization and proper use of them in speech. The main objective of the article is to determine the most productive methods for studying Russian prepositions in Russian as a foreign language lessons. The article shows that the semantics of the preposition is revealed in the process of its combination with various lexemes. Since words combined with a preposition can influence their meaning, it is necessary to investigate the semantics of the prepositional case construction as a whole.
