Abstract: This article is devoted to the process of developing learners’ universal competences connected with communicative skills, including skills of international communication, which are in demand in modern world and thus professionally important. The benchmarks in students’ preparation to be citizens of their own countries and the whole world are the categories “Communication” and “Intercultural Interaction” determined by the Federal State Educational Standards of Higher Education. Intercultural education is regarded as an individual process of personality development which leads to changes in individual’s behaviour connected with understanding and accepting culturally specific forms in the behaviour of representatives of other cultures. Development of students’ qualities and habits, ways of behaviour leading to mutual understanding in a dialogue of cultures is the result of intercultural education which cannot be achieved within one or two disciplines. There are objective reasons for this: the quantity of weekly hours and credits, theoretical character of lectures and seminars, absence of representatives of culture, etc. Intercultural project solves these tasks easily. The article gives the description of how participation of Polish and Russian students in project “Poland and Russia: dialogue of generations” helped in formation of intercultural competences. Students’ participation in an intercultural project is an effective means of universal competences development as it gives an opportunity to learn to analyze and take into account diversity of cultures, provides active live communication in the process of intercultural interaction. At the moment our education is aimed at finding effective methods and ways of teaching in order to prepare students to successful life and work in the modern world in terms of globalization. To our mind intercultural project is a fully appropriate way of communicative and intercultural competences development and can be regarded as a modern communicative technology with high level of effectiveness.
