Abstract: The article substantiates the possibilities of developing the artistic and creative abilities of adolescents by means of Chinese painting. Due to the fact that in adolescence there is an acute need for selfexpression, there is a need to develop artistic and creative abilities in order to meet this basic need. On the other hand, adolescents do not own the means and methods of positive self-expression. Art can help teens express their feelings and moods in various creative products. Thanks to its imagery, deep symbolism, maximum expressiveness and plot accessibility, Chinese painting has special capabilities. Based on the analysis of the specifics of Chinese painting, taking into account the age characteristics of adolescent children who do not study visual art professionally, the concept of “artistic and creative abilities” of adolescents regarding their development by means of Chinese painting is clarified. Indicators of the developed quality of adolescents are determined on the basis of a refined concept: “knowledge of the features and specifics of Chinese painting”, “the ability to ‘read’ the meaning of the artworks of Chinese artists”, “the ability to use elements of Chinese painting in their own creative works and interpret them creatively”. For each indicator, methods for their development are justified and determined, among which are the general pedagogical methods of conversation, storytelling, demonstration (demonstration of video materials) and pedagogy of art education: analysis of works of art, melodiclamation, associations, creative assignments, including the creation of poems in the spirit of Chinese poetry. The article reveals techniques for organizing a workspace in the style of Chinese masters, working out basic strokes (a system of 5 primary elements – wood, fire, earth, metal, water), working out the basic lines of Kai Shu handwriting, and quick drawing, which contribute to the development of the artistic and creative abilities of adolescents by means of Chinese painting.
Key words: Artistic and creative abilities; Chinese painting; methods and techniques for the development of artistic and creative abilities of adolescents.
