Deviant Behavior of Young People in the Virtual Space: Cyberbullying

Abstract: The specific historical conditions of each society determine the forms of social deviations and their scale. Today the development of deviant behavior as a mass social phenomenon among young people is promoted by the information progress of Russia and the transition to digital technologies. Under these conditions, the authors refer to cyberbullying as negative forms of virtual communication (deviant behavior in virtual space). Cyberbullying as bullying in the digital space is considered by the authors in the context of serious social risks for young people. The purpose of the research is to identify the frequency of cyberbullying in the virtual space among young people, to determine their behavioral characteristics that determine the position of the victim or initiator in it. The main research methods used were content analysis as a method for collecting and qualitative analysis of text data arrays, descriptive statistics as a method for visualizing quantitative research results, and the ward method (cluster analysis) for identifying cluster groups. The article considers the specific features of cyberbullying as a modern form of deviant behavior that is becoming widespread in relation to the problem of deviant behavior of young people in the virtual space, which is confirmed by the results of the first stage of empirical research. The article presents the types of Internet users who initiate cyberbullying or become its victim: aggressive-provoking, victimizing, initiating. The described types allow us to determine the behavioral characteristics of young people related to them and their position in cyberbullying. The results of the research can be used in the practical activities of specialists involved in the organization of psychological and pedagogical support for cyberbullying participants.
