Abstract: The aim of the work is to describe pedagogical techniques that allow teaching “History of fine arts” discipline in the context of practice-oriented and competence-based approaches. The following re-search methods were used: monographic method, historical-genetic method, pedagogical experiment. The “style – styling – bad styling” technique is genetically linked with the pedagogic legacy of the first schools of design Bauhaus and VKHUTUTEMAS, theoretical works by A. G. Gabrichevsky and methods of introductory course by A. E. Korotovsky. The complexity of the task may vary depending on the goals and objectives set by the teacher, as well as the abilities of students. The technique develops, and helps to determine the level of the skill of artistic forms analysis (standard forms, style, genre components of a things’ morphogenesis, materials, the level of the authors’ artistic erudition), which are necessary for professional activity of a designer, regardless of the student’s choice of specialization. The techniques “reverse to prototype” and “style – styling – bad styling” considered in the article were tested and showed their effectiveness in full-time, part-time and distance learning.
Key words: design education; designers; training of designers; professional competence; development of competencies; shaping competence; styling training; prototypes; students.
