Abstract: The article deals with interrelation between the personality traits in married couples and the parameters of family relations. The personality traits of married couples characterize the emotional-volitional sphere. They include responsibility, initiative, decisiveness, self-control, energy, persistence, independence, purposefulness and consideration. The parameters of family relations include the frequency of punishments applied by parents to the children. Twenty types of punishments were registered in the research, including physical ones. The punishments were subdivided into constructive and destructive. The author observed the indicators of emotional stress of the parents, satisfaction with family life, and the indicators of behavior of the child, including negative emotions and problems. The punishments that had been used to the parents in their own childhood were noted separately. The research revealed numerous correlations between the personality traits of the parents and the parameters of family relations. As it turns out, the married couples with well-developed volitional personality traits tend to be more satisfied with various spheres of family life. The article argues that such parents are not apt to experiencing sorrow, depression, or anxiety. They are more satisfied with themselves and more often experience happiness and joy. The married couples with marked volitional traits demonstrate the tendency to ascribe experiencing the feelings of happiness to the other parent in most cases. The married couples with marked volitional traits are more inclined to apply such methods of punishment as demonstration of distress and demand of excuse rather than resort to physical punishments. The degree of manifestation of volitional traits of the parents is related to certain features of the child’s behavior. The children of such parents are not inclined to experience depression, are more active, and have better self-control.
