Abstract: The article analyzes audition as a highly intellectual speech activity in the process of consecutive one-way interpretation. This activity differs from the audition ‘for oneself’ in a number of specific features. The author considers that the purpose of interpreter’s audition lays in the extraction, comprehension and structuring of the original text, which results in the interpreter’s understanding of its theme and rheme unity. The paper reveals the first component of consecutive one-way interpretation speech unit, i.e. a semantic verbal decision, which is made through reasoning. This represents the cognitive and research activity that leads to a new semantic formation. The paper analyzes the stages of decision making in the process of interpreter’s audition of the original text. These include the stages of orientation in the interpreting situation, as well as making a semantic verbal decision and its implementation. The author suggests the methods of perceiving, comprehending, understanding and recording the subject and semantic content of the text in the form of a referential matrix, theme and rheme unity and the actual division of the text structure, as well as the reduced semantic content program of the sounding text as a piece of discourse. The demonstration of these methods of semantic content extraction is accompanied by the examples of using authentic pieces of discourse that are semantically complete. Their content is recorded in the form of keywords matrices, actual division of the text structures and semantic complexes. The research includes the examples of exercises aimed at the development of skills and abilities of a future interpreter who is able of making semantic decisions of various levels in the process of auditing a semantically complete piece of discourse. In conclusion the author indicates a set of factors that stipulate a semantic decision in the process of interpreter’s audition of a text.
