Peculiarities of Cross-Cultural Competence Formation Process

Abstract: This article is devoted to the problem of cross-cultural competence, which is very important nowadays. The goal of the article is reflection of cross-cultural competence formation. To reach the goal, an analysis of theoretical works of Russian and foreign authors was carried out. The process of cross-cultural competence formation has got its own peculiarities and it consists of 4 steps. The 1st step aims at general cultural competences formation, including skills and abilities. The 2d step helps to define ethnic identity and to broaden the outlook of another world image. There are two levels of world image formation. The 1st level is formed with the help of the native language when a person identifies themselves with a nation. The 2d level is connected with a foreign language. It forms tolerant attitude, which is very important for communication. The 3d step is connected with the content of cross-cultural competence and it consists of several aspects: linquistic, socio-linquistic, socio-cultural, social, strategic, discursive and personal qualities. Each aspect plays an important role in cross-cultural competence formation. The 4th step is the last in cross-cultural competence formation. The analysis of theoretical papers allowed to treat cross-cultural communicative competence as a multidimensional concept including a set of different competences, determining the strategy of communication with representatives of other cultures and nations characterized by a positive attitude to interlocutor and creating positive images of conversation partners able to compare languages and cultures.
