Abstract: The basic theories and concepts of professional development in foreign and domestic psychology are described, peculiarities of professional education in post-industrial society and models of professional development are analysed. Contemporary models of professional training, their sense creating descriptors, their objective orientations are discussed. Main tendencies of development of the system of continuous professional education are enumerated. Conclusions about the meaning of professional development in modernization of professional education are drawn.
