Abstract: The problem of application of networking social services in education is discussed. In the work the concept of “social networking services” is investigated and the main types of services are listed. The characteristics of networking services have been enumerated. The system of their educational functions has been represented. The meta-models of the educational process: the social, psychological, informational have made up the basis of allocation its functions. The main functions of networking services such as: social, “action functions”, information functions have been determined; their importance in the educational process has been shown. Groups of functions in the information of networking services have been presented. The content of those functions has been formulated; their links and relationships have been clarified.
