Abstract: The paper examines the problem of poetic text analysis at practical classes of German Stylistics. It also touches upon the issue of considering stylistic analysis as one of the aspects of philological analysis. The paper also describes the problem of material selection and teaching stylistic analysis of a poetic text within the limited amount of academic hours allotted to the course. Stylistic text analysis is the final part of the practical course of Stylistics that allows students to summarize and to review the material learnt during the whole course and teaches them to identify characteristic features of texts of different functional styles. The poetic text is studied as a kind of literary fiction style and is analyzed according to a universal algorithm employed for the analysis of texts of different functional styles. For visual clarity and intensity of teaching, the author considers it necessary to use charts and tables illustrating the most problematic aspects of poetic text analysis (meter and rhythmic and intonation patterns, tropes, figures of speech, genre variety of poetic texts, etc.). On the basis of analysis of the current literature on the problem, the author also suggests an algorithm for poetic text analysis and gives a sample of a stylistic analysis of a poem.
