Abstract: The article reviews the concept of attribution in intercultural communication as the act of attributing some characteristic feature which is not immediately perceived to some object, person or phenomenon as well as factors contributing to inaccurate perception and evaluation of partners‘ communicative behavior during intercultural interaction. A number of attribution errors regarding interpretation of verbal and non-verbal communicative behavior are given as an example. The examples provided include errors associated with the dimension of national culture as well as errors connected with the peculiarities of educational process within international online cultural and educative projects. A brief analysis of reasons for such mistakes and factors contributing to erroneous interpretation of communicative behavior of partners in cross-cultural communication is given. The paper also highlights methodological conditions necessary for prophylaxis and correction of attribution errors in teaching intercultural communication by means of a foreign language. Stages of teaching intercultural communication through interaction with foreign partners such as an introductory, observation, development and reflection one are introduced. Description of each stage includes its goal, content and corresponding activities. The article also describes a number of techniques which promote optimal use of advantages of intercultural interaction for intercultural communicative competence development by students.
