Abstract: The study of loneliness is broadly represented in the context of senior citizens. But today the symptoms of loneliness may be found even in young people. Inability to build interpersonal relations with one‘s peers and surrounding grown-up people leads to disadaptation of children and young people at their transition from one education system to another. The given research discloses the peculiarities of influence of the phenomenon of loneliness on the ability to overcome adaptation problems of the first year students. One of such problems is the absence of motivation to study and skills of self-organization activity which determine the success of the future academic and professional activity. Destructive strategies of behavior of overcoming are formed under the influence of loneliness. They manifest themselves both as restrain from problem solution, escape from it, inability to take responsibility for one‘s actions upon oneself and as self-destroying behavior – abuse of alcohol, smoking, etc. The discovered tendencies allow optimizing the academic process and ensure psycho-pedagogical support of the first year students.
