Abstract: The article analyzes approaches to the definition of competence-oriented tasks, provides an algorithm of creating such tasks and contains illustrations of task complexes for an examination in methods of teaching Russian in a pedagogical university. The modern system of higher professional education in Russia is based on the competence-oriented principle. In accordance with this, the level of formation of competences, enumerated in the curriculum of a discipline (or module) should be verified in the process of training, which, in its turn, means that it is necessary to use competence-oriented tasks with freely constructed solutions as assessment tools at the examination in methods of teaching Russian. Competenceoriented tasks are integrative didactic units of the content, technology and monitoring of the quality of training; they make up a pedagogically modified fragment of professional activity of a specialist, where performed actions are associated with competences. The article provides examples of application of such tasks for the assessment of the level of formation of the professional competence 3 (PC-3) “Ability to use modern methods and technologies, methods of diagnostics of the learners’ achievements for ensuring high quality of education process”. Competence-oriented tasks may include questions, methods tasks, cases, situational tasks, tests, etc. The didactic illustrating material should be varied enough and should be based on the use of the materials of the school textbook of Russian, reference books, printed and electronic didactic materials in Russian, etc.
