Abstract: The article discusses the trends of globalization and regionalization, determining the development of the modern world. The processes of regionalization, which are manifested in the preservation of cultural differences between social groups are identified as an important factor of the conditions and content of intercultural communication. The article provides an analysis of the notion of regionalization of educational content, as well as problems of implementation of the regional component in the process of teaching foreign languages. On the basis of the undertaken analysis, the article highlights the reasons justifying the need for further implementation of the principle of regionalization in teaching foreign languages. The article presents the author's definition of a regional component in the process of teaching of foreign languages. In line with this definition, it describes the structure of the regional component of the content of foreign language teaching, which is made up of the following components: 1) Regional material of the Russian society: a) the micro level; b) the meso level; C) the macro level. 2) . Regional material of the countries of the studying language: 1) the micro level; 2) the meso level; 3) the macro level. The article also presents the results of an analysis of the content of teaching the German language to students of linguistics of LUNN in compliance with the principle of reliance on the regional culture of the native and foreign language society in their comparison. In conclusion, it is noted that possession of information about the cultural characteristics of different regions of the native country and the countries of the studied language at the macro, meso and micro levels and the ability to build the process of intercultural communication on the basis of this make up the ability to be an effective participant and a mediator of the dialogue of cultures.
