Abstract: The article substantiates the urgency and pedagogical value of the use of classroom response systems (CRS) with reference to the previous collaborative research of the authors and teachers of Ariel University (Israel). It points out, however, that the use of button devices – «clickers» – in such systems is inefficient in organizational terms. The article discusses the possibility of building classroom response systems based on the use of mobile devices of learners. Mobile devices act as analogues of "clickers" and provide remote reception of questions from the teacher's computer, formulation of responses and transfer of voting results back to the host computer. The article offers a comparison of a number of such systems. Their main disadvantages, from the point of view of our home universities, are the following: English-language interface, commercial nature of programs and the requirement for obligatory access to the Internet in the room in which the survey is conducted. The article describes a solution, proposed by the authors, in which a local Wi-Fi network is used for the connection of the host computer with the students’ mobile devices. The network is easily deployed by the teacher in the room just before the lecture. The article also lays out the general principles of operation of such classroom response system, dubbed «Inquirer», and describes the activities of the teacher and students on the stage of the system’s preparation for work,
Key words: Classroom response system (CRS); mobile device; local Wi-Fi.
