Principles of Application of Online Infographics Editors

Abstract: The article deals with the principles and technologies of infographics creation. Infographics are realized in four aspects: information and communication, design, ergonomic and esthetic. The information and communication aspect includes contents, aim, scope of application, and communicative purpose of infographics. The aspect of design covers technological features of creation and means and methods of design. The ergonomic aspect reflects the search for forms of integration of information and visual image, providing understanding of the meaning of the basic data by the viewer. The esthetic aspect is connected with artistic means and methods of creation of infographics. Thus, infographics are considered to be a complex genre of integrating analytical skills, experience of design and artistic activity. This multidimensionality generates a contradiction between the urgency of use of infographics in education and the complexity of its realization. The search for the solution is conducted by the methods of analysis of technology of creation of infographics and comparison of software products. Two technological approaches are considered: creation of design infographics by means of professional graphic programs and development of standardized infographics by means of free online editors. The tools for optimizing the development process are found by means of comparison and analysis of infographics. Usage of online editors simplifies work at a number of stages of creation of infographics. At the stage of prototyping, the user can use templates as analogs, at the stage of realization he can apply ready-made composite decisions, graphic styles, fonts and color schemes and libraries of images, at the publication stage he can share the results of his work on the Internet. Besides, the use of online editors develops visual thinking, allows gaining an impression about the criteria of quality assessment and current trends in the field of infographics, and provides initial experience of visual representation of data.
