Abstract: In this article, the conditions of formation research skills for children of preschool age are identified. The author notes that the concept of "research skills" should be read in conjunction with such terms as "research activism", "exploratory behavior", "research activities". These concepts are described in the article, their relationships are showed and the structure of research skills are stated. The author identifies such abilities in the skill structure as abilities to work with information, to identify the problems, to plan the work, to put forward and experimentally test hypotheses, to draw conclusions, to present and evaluate the results of the work. The conditions of formation research abilities for children of preschool age in the process of teaching mathematics are: to create the developing object-spatial environment in a group of kindergarten that allows children to experiment with available to them materials; to use various forms of education for children in the educational process such as mathematically oriented excursions; to use problem situations in the educational process; to take into account the age and individual characteristics of children of senior preschool age. The practical significance lies in the fact that the research material can be used in the practice of kindergarten teachers.
