Onomastic Component in the Course of Russian as a Foreign Language

Abstract: The article discusses the issue of inclusion of the onomastic component in the process of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The aim of the study is to highlight the issues, connected with the inclusion of the onomastic component in the course of Russian as a foreign language. The experience of work with foreign students reveals the importance of teaching the peculiarities of anthroponyms as an integrative part of the Russian speech etiquette. Urbanonyms are an integrative part of linguistic and cultural aspects of teaching Russian as a foreign language. Teaching this aspect to foreign students is challenging since foreigners have difficulty using Russian proper names. The article discusses the major word-formation types of Russian names, surnames and patronymic names and their declensions. The issues of presenting the main structural models of Russian urbanonyms to foreign students are highlighted in the article as well. The information presented in the article can be used at practical classes of Russian as a foreign language. Since the authors do not set the aim of discussing the most difficult cases, the article presents only the most common types of Russian anthroponyms and urbanonyms that are extremely difficult for foreign citizens to study.
