Abstract: The article reviews teaching of Russian as a foreign language for Chinese students on the basis of their socio-cultural characteristics. The aim of this work is to provide theoretical grounds for the consideration of socio-cultural characteristics as a factor influencing the educational process at the University, and to discuss the practical experience of the Tula State Leo Tolstoy Pedagogical University in the indicated direction. The article describes the main differences between the Russian and Chinese mentality, specific features of educational systems and pedagogical conditions under which it is possible to solve the fundamental problems of the higher education system in modern Russia (the use of real linguistic reality situations; the use of information and communication technologies; the right to autonomy; the development of skills in research activities; edutainment).
