Factors That Contribute to the Formation of Cyber-Addiction in Adolescents

Abstract: The article describes the main factors that contribute to the formation of cyber-addiction in adolescents and summarized different points of view of psychologists on the problem of Internet addiction. It also defines the urgency of studying causes and mechanisms of cyber-addiction in adolescents. In the beginning of the article, the author formulates the problem of research which consists in the global computerization of the modern society. The conclusions contain the analysis stages, factors and components of the development of cyber-addiction in adolescents. The article does not only reveal the psychological determinants of cyber-addiction in adolescents such as personal characteristics, self-attitude, anxiety, aggression, but also depicts social features: style of interpersonal interaction, and specificity of parent-child relationships. The article gives definitions of the basic concepts: Internet dependency, determinant, introversion, loneliness. The article highlights points of view of psychologists regarding changes in adolescents with Internet addiction at the physiological level: the attitude to one’s own body, changes in the physical image of "Self". The article presents the points of view of foreign and domestic scholars and reveals that psychologists do not have a uniform point of view on the problem of classification of determinants of Internet addiction: some authors suggest the existence of social prerequisites for the development of this type of dependency, while others focus on the psychological nature of Internet addiction.
