Abstract: The paper deals with the expediency of usage the ancestors' experience in modern practice of familiarizing the younger generation with physical culture. The author argues that methods and means of teaching are unique for each nation and differ from one another since they were created in different conditions of climate, household, geography, history, etc. It is urgent to apply the past ideas in the process of familiarizing children with physical culture. The objective of the given research is the establishment of uniform and peculiar directions, circumstances and factors of education in the Abkhazian national physical culture. This work is distinguished from similar works by the attempt to summarize ideas and criteria of physical training in the national pedagogy of the Republic of Abkhazia; to reveal tasks, ways and methods of physical education in Abkhazian ethnic pedagogy; to reveal the connection between physical, labor and military education of the young Abkhazian people. The results of the undertaken analysis make it possible to come to the conclusion that a significant role has been played in the popular Abkhazian pedagogy by physical training which has been considered as an inseparable part of personal development and the main constituent both of labor and military training.
