Teaching Russian as a Second Language Based on Blended Learning in China

Abstract: The technology of blended learning is one of the most promising. The article discusses the possibility of using blended learning in teaching Russian as a foreign language (RFL) in Chinese universities. Four main principles that should be obeyed when working out the models of teaching RFL are described on the example of in-class teaching of RFL in China: creation of a suitable environment for the students; satisfaction of the students’ needs in independent and individual training; wide range of resources; dynamic groups of students. The models of blended learning used in teaching RFL in China are described in detail: independent learning, flipped classroom, specially equipped classrooms etc. Based on the experience the author warns of the difficulties that may arise and gives practical advice on creation of the model of blended learning: high quality training of teachers; stimulation of professional development of teachers; teaching the students to study independently and in group, promotion of informational literacy of students; quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness of blended learning.
