The Study of the Mechanism of Speech Pathology of Children with Autism

Abstract: The article describes verbal and non-verbal functions of children with autism in pre-school and junior school age. All the children with autism who took part in this research were tested before they were included in individual programs based on the analysis of their behavior. Thus, it is possible to say that their verbal functions were not influenced by some development programs. The article describes the mechanism of speech pathology of the children with the help of the trinity “motor basis of speech – perceptive basis of speech – communicative and behavioral basis of speech”, which is the foundation for speaking skills acquisition. The absence of skills of this trinity influences speech and language acquisition of children with autism. When we describe motor, perceptive and communicative-behavioral bases of speech, we define motor, perceptive and communicative-behavioral bases of speech of children with autism; empirical research allowed us to single out deficiency of the basic skills. The article provides data got in observation of communication and behavior skills that characterize the state of motor, perceptive and communicative-behavioral bases of speech of children with autism. The article stresses that it is not only traditional methods of speech therapy that may be ineffective, but also technologies of verbal behavior development of children with autism. Thus, it is important to use some specific methods of correction and to take into account the basic skills of motor, perceptive and communicative-behavioral bases of speech.
