Specifics of Speech Development of Early and Preschool Age Children Physically or Mentally Challenged

Abstract: The article presents modern approaches to the logopedic diagnosis and speech therapy of early and preschool age children with limited physical abilities. Deviations in speech are always present in the structure of developmental disorders of children with disabilities. It is important to determine the primary or secondary nature of their manifestations. It is necessary to conduct a survey of speaking skills in the context of psycho-pedagogical diagnosis of the other lines of development (cognitive, motor and social) with the aim of a differentiated accounting of all the interacting factors of child’s development to reveal the leading link (or links) of the pathological process and then choose an adequate strategy of speech therapy. In the article special attention is paid to such aspect of logopedic diagnosis as determination of the level of understanding of speech addressed to the child by this child. Speech understanding is seen as difficult organized multilevel process, the normal formation of which is provided by general mechanisms of speaking formation. The basis of these mechanisms is gnostic process. In this regard, the normal development of speech understanding is an important indicator of adequate development of the cognitive sphere and impressive speech of children of early and preschool age. The article also presents the practical results of the experimental study of speech therapy of children of early and preschool age with limited physical abilities and the analysis of the manifestations of their deficiency of speech development. Taking into account the specifics of speech development of children of early and preschool age, they are divided into groups to further develop individual programs of speech therapy for each of them.
