Abstract: Almost simultaneously with the advent of computers, programmers began creating computer games, which immediately found a large number of fans. The evolution of computer technology at the turn of XX-XXI centuries led to technical improvements in games (graphics and gameplay were improved; it became possible to create multiplayer and online games), the game became more accessible and easier to master. All this has led to the involvement of people of different ages and professions into computer games. The article analyzes the historical computer games, the plot of which is associated with the events of World War II. The developers of computer games present the users their own version of the evens, not always realistic and truthful, at the same time they provide an opportunity during the game to not only become a part of the Second World War, but also to change the course of history and to influence the outcome of battles. In modern conditions of politicization of history, when different interpretations of historical events start real „memory wars”, computer games are not just a means of entertainment, but they also have a significant impact on the formation and transformation of historical memory. This influence is more susceptible to the younger generation of Russians for whom the memory of the Second World War is very abstract and who spend a significant portion of their free time on the computer.
Key words: Historical memory; World War II; a computer game; IT technologies; representation of the past; the image of the past; historical computer game.
