External Factors of Teachers’ Defensive and Coping Behavior in the Educational Environment

Abstract: The article discusses the issue of individual’s security and teachers’ activities. It is said that a teacher can implement a safe pedagogical activity only if he has psychological health. Psychological health can be maintained in a safe educational environment, and can be disrupted in an unsafe educational environment. One of the important components of a teacher’s psychological health is defensive and coping behavior. Its functioning is influenced by various factors, including external factors, such as working conditions, nature of activities, protection from threats, etc. The aim of the work is to study the external factors of defensive and coping behavior of teachers in the educational environment. The study involved teachers (n = 50, average age = 29 years) of six educational establishments of secondary and higher vocational education in Ekaterinburg. According to the results of the survey of the psychological safety of the educational environment, we can say that teachers have a greater positive attitude to the educational environment, they are fairly satisfied with relationships with other teachers and students, and they feel secure and safe in the educational environment. Based on the results of the correlation analysis, we can conclude that the factors affecting the operation of defensive and more coping strategies in this sample of teachers are: professional development and self-development, emotional satisfaction with the educational environment, safety of the environment, interpersonal relations in the educational environment.
