Abstract: The article is devoted to methodological issues of the organization of engineering activities of students in the framework of the Federal state educational standard of basic General education. This work contains the results of the study, the purpose of which is to determine the possibility and feasibility of using design technology in the formation of engineering competence of students of basic General education of General education organizations. A model has been developed that contains the target, structural and technological blocks, approaches, principles, components, stages and conditions of implementation in the educational process. The requirements for engineering projects, the implementation of which in extracurricular activities by students provides motivation for professional activity, social orientation and development of cognitive interests and creative abilities. The work is based on a broad base of existing scientific works corresponding to the research topic. The object of research is engineering training, as the subject was defined engineering design activity as an effective technology that contributes to the formation of engineering competence in students of General education institutions. The presented results are obtained by means of primary content analysis of thematic scientific literature, generalization and structuring of the collected information and subsequent comparative analysis. The main research methods are represented by a set of General scientific (description, comparison, generalization) and private scientific (descriptive content analysis) methods. Scientific and practical significance lies in the development of a model for the implementation of project technology in the formation of engineering competence of students of basic General education, the definition of principles for managing the process of competence formation, clarifying the stages of engineering design, describing the activities of students and teachers. The implementation of the model ensures the productivity of the formation of engineering competence of students.
