Abstract: The problem of the research is to determine the value dominants that are relevant for the formation of the world view of the “secondary linguistic persona” (in this study – foreign students of the military engineering specialty). The research is carried out using the method of verbal-associative experiment, which allows us to identify the value dominants of the world view of military personnel on the basis of surveys conducted among native speakers and foreigners. The analysis of these concepts shows that the world view of Russian cadets is dominated by moral-patriotic and ethic components. Associations received from foreigners are dominated by the concepts connected with military aggression (in the nucleus we find such words as force, weapon, courage). In the associations with the words MILITARY MAN / MILITARY SERVICE received from the Russian cadets, the most frequent are those with positive connotations (courage, honor, protection, responsibility), which were on the periphery among the foreign cadets’ associations. The results of statistical analysis confirm the need for development of value dominants in the world view of foreign students majoring in military engineering in Russia to conform to traditional Russian attitude to a military man not as an aggressor and conqueror, but as a courageous defender of the Motherland. Thus, the results of the experiment show that there is a need to develop a methodology of profession-oriented teaching on the basis of the identified value dominants.
Key words: Axiology; value dominants; value picture of the world; Russian as a foreign language; methods of teaching the Russian language; methodology of the Russian language at the university; foreign students; military engineering universities; professionally oriented training; linguistic consciousness.
