Abstract: The article raises the problem of the importance of using virtual museums in order to implement basic education, as well as the principles of patriotic education of schoolchildren. The purpose of the research is to present the main positive characteristics of the use of the virtual museum in the process of school education in general and the formation of patriotic consciousness of students in particular. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the identification of significant positive factors in the use of virtual museums in the implementation of educational functions, which was not systematically presented in other works. The theoretical significance of the work is to identify and describe the main characteristics of the use of virtual museums of any type in the process of school education. The practical significance of the research is that the results of this research can be used in the preparation of teaching materials by teachers for classroom and extracurricular activities, as well as methodological developments for the formation of an independent learning environment. Among the important results are the following: the selected characteristics of virtual museums open up wide prospects for using virtual museums in the main educational process in order to master the school curriculum; in terms of patriotic education of schoolchildren, the positive aspects of virtual museums in comparison with traditional ones are clearly identified (virtual museums contribute to the formation of love for their region, their country, and form a patriotic consciousness); among other things, virtual museums contribute to the development of innovative competencies.
