Abstract: This article represents the study results of the life plan expectations of young women in terms of professional and family careers. The research is relevant since life plans that acquire certainty and concretion during adult become an incentive and a guiding force for a young person. Self-determination with regard to life priorities has always been one of the difficult tasks, but in the modern world its solution gets complicated by a wide range of opportunities for self-realization with a constant growth of the orientation towards success and personal achievements. To determine the place that the family and professional careers occupy in the life plans, eighty-eight young women aged eighteen to twenty were surveyed. The questionnaire developed for the research, helped record the desire of young women during adult to build a balanced life outlook. Giving priority to a family career, young women tend to pay attention to building a professional career in the near future. According to the participants, the need for such balance is caused by the fact that these two types of careers satisfy different personal needs. Young women build a professional career to satisfy the desire for selfrealization, fulfillment of personal interests. They build a family career, however, to gain a close and trustbased relationship and security. It must be admitted that the motive of a family creation to have a child and fulfill a parental role is expressed to a much lesser extent than the other motives. The study of time perspective showed that building a family career is postponed to a more distant perspective compared to a professional one. The participants do not show a clear understanding of what they must do to build a family career. However, they have are confident that they will be able to build a harmonious family relationship. In this case, they much more rely on their own efforts than in the case of a professional career. The study results showed that the priorities of the young women in building one or another type of career are determined by their motivation and needs. The priority of a family career is based on the high degree of motivation to achieve psychological intimacy, raising children, striving for security, and avoiding loneliness. High degree of motivation to self-realization and to be in demand in profession is common to young women planning to devote their lives to building a professional career in the near future.
