Abstract: The article is devoted to research of psychological separation and individuation of students in relations with father. The urgency of the chosen topic is confirmed, on the one hand, by objective complexity of the process of growing of modern adolescents in the conditions of uncertainty in economic, social and political spheres of the Russian society. On the other hand, it is substantiated by an ambiguous assessment in family relations psychology of father‘s role in the modern Russian family. 291 University and College students from different cities of Russia were tested in the experiment. Adolescents, on the average, considerably need emotional support, approval from the father, his inclusiveness in their life. The research revealed community of the cognitive sphere. In situations of acceptance of crucial decisions and making of significant choices students more often rely on themselves; they address their fathers for council less often. Students seldom endure ambivalent or negative feelings (sense of guilt, shame, anger or anxiety, etc.) in the relations with the father. Individuation and the process of development of uniqueness in students go side by side in the relations with the father rather harmoniously, i.e. in spite of the fact that students even more often regard their own interests, they are still in emotional and close, confidential relations with the father. In general, the position of fathers, in relation to the examined students, is constructive and supports the growing of adolescents. The article discusses the revealed gender, cross-cultural and interregional distinctions of separation and individuation of students in their relations with fathers.
Key words: Psychological separation; individuation; adolescence; father.
