Abstract: The article deals with the content of the notion “translation strategy of English legal discourse”. It analyzes different approaches to the interpretation of the term translation strategy. A translation strategy is defined as a combination of efficient, logically interrelated and successive speech activities. These activities are applied in academic translation to overcome the written translation difficulties of English legal discourse at all stages of the translation work. Tactic of translation is defined as a specific speech action performed to implement a translation strategy and to achieve the translation goal at all stages of the work on translation. Translation strategies classification includes such elements as a general translation strategy; global translation strategy (translation process stages); local translation strategy (different groups of translation difficulties). Local translation strategy is implemented through tactics. From our point of view, this classification of translation strategies is the most suitable for the construction of a method of teaching written translation strategies to the students of non-linguistic universities.
Key words: English legal discourse, translation problems, translation strategy, translation tactics, legal translation.
