Abstract: In the article the question of development of a set of exercises is considered. Translation represents a complex form of speech activity. This activity is impossible without specific knowledge, skills and personal qualities, which constitute translator's competence. Translation skills are central in the structure of translator's competence, which represents synthesis of theoretical knowledge and practical action performed based on translation skills. The basis for creation of the typology of exercises is the following groups of translation skills: to overcome linguistic and discourse difficulties on the first stage of translation "understanding and interpretation", skills to overcome linguistic and discourse difficulties on the second stage of translation "the product of translation of the text", skills of editing and assessing of the translated text.
