Abstract: The problem of the relationship of religiosity with various personal characteristics involves the accumulation of empirical data and conclusions based on them. This is especially true in relation to suicidal intentions and the personal context in which they are included. The purpose of the study is to identify the relationship of religiosity and suicidal intentions and personality factors mediating these relationships. The study involved 327 university students aged 20 to 28 years, 119 men and 208 women. A set of tests was used to diagnose suicidal intentions, moods, stress and reactions to stress, positive self-attitude (developed by M. Perrez, B. Plancherel, S. Seitz, A. Babounakis, A. Teuscher, N. Michlig, translated and adapted by М. V. Chumakov), stress coping test (developed by Pargament, Ensing, Falgout, Olsen, Reilly, Van Haitsma, Warren, translated and adapted by D. M. Chumakova). Religiosity was measured by self-assessment on a 10point scale. Statistically reliable relationships were established between self-esteem of a person’s religiosity and suicidal intentions. High self-esteem of religiosity and religion-based coping are correlated with low severity of suicidal intentions. The parameters that can be considered as mediating the relationship of religiosity and suicidal intentions are determined. The key ones are optimism and positive self-alignment. It is shown that various parameters of stress, reactions to stress, moods, optimism, self-tuning, copying using religion and self-esteem of religiosity are closely and psychologically soundly interconnected.
